About Pupgrade

How Pupgrade works.

Non-aversive. Home-trainable. The daily routine plans the training, and mastery actually means something. Here's the whole thing.

How it works

Four steps. The loop is the whole game.

Every dog-training app is a course catalog or a checklist. Pupgrade is neither, it's a feedback loop between your routine, your dog's progress, and the problems you actually care about.

Tell us about your dog

Name, breed, age bracket. We don't need a vet record, just enough to adapt the protocol.

Pick what to fix

12 focus areas in plain English. "She jumps on people." "He pulls on walks." Not a course catalog.

Your routine plans the training

Each scheduled block auto-picks the next un-mastered skill from your focus areas, rotating so progress is real.

Track mastery: unlock next

Five semantic levels per skill. Prereqs unlock the next step. Failure prompts a 6-question diagnostic.

Why Pupgrade

Four things only Pupgrade does.

Tap any pillar to see how we built it.

🔁

The routine loop

Your daily routine isn't a static checklist, it auto-picks the next skill from your focus areas. Only Pupgrade closes that loop.

🚫

Non-aversive: on purpose

No shock. No prong. No "balanced" euphemism. The Sound Toolkit gives you the beeps owners want from collars, without the collar.

🧠

Per-dog: not per-breed

Every competitor segments at "puppy vs. adult." Pupgrade tracks how your dog responds and adapts the next session to them.

Our ethic, out loud

What Pupgrade won't ask you to do.

Every dog-training app says they're "positive." We say exactly what we won't do, and why.

Pupgrade will never tell you to…

  • Knee your dog in the chest to stop a jump
  • Use a shock, prong, or pinch collar
  • Yank a leash as a "correction"
  • Punish a recall, ever
  • Spend $3,000 on a trainer you'll see weekly

Pupgrade will ask you to…

  • Reward what you want, manage what you don't
  • Step back when your dog jumps, loss of access, not pain
  • Train your dog, not the guest
  • Cue once, then wait, never repeat "sit, sit, SIT"
  • Be the boring, predictable adult in the room
More than a checklist

Sound Toolkit

Whistles, clickers, marker tones, recall sounds. The acoustic signals owners reach for in shock-collar beep-mode, without the collar. Usable mid-walk without entering a lesson.

Common questions

Questions you'd ask us in person.

Is this for puppies, adult dogs, or both?
Both. Pupgrade adapts by age bracket (puppy, young, adult, senior) and by the specific problems you pick. Adult and senior owners are an under-served market, most apps are puppy-first and lose users at 6 months. We don't.
What if my dog has serious issues like resource guarding or aggression?
We include the standard prevention protocols (add-food-don't-take, sub-threshold desensitization, etc.) but explicitly route serious cases to a credentialed behaviorist. Pupgrade replaces a $3,000 board-and-train, it doesn't replace a board-certified veterinary behaviorist for clinical cases.
Can I cancel my Pupgraded subscription?
Anytime, in two taps. Your progress data stays, if you come back later, your dog's mastery levels are still there. No cancellation friction, no "are you sure" loops.
Do you use a clicker, treats, or something else?
Treats by default (high-value for new behaviors, kibble for known ones, intermittent reinforcement long-term). Marker word "Yes!" by default; clicker as a power-user option. No food-skepticism dogma, no "treats are bribery" framing.
How is this different from Pupford, Dogo, or Puppr?
Each of those is built around one trainer's brand or one feature (Pupford = curriculum, Puppr = celebrity tricks, Dogo = routine). Pupgrade is the only app where the routine, progress tracking, and focus-area taxonomy are wired into a single loop, your 6 PM training block automatically picks the next un-mastered skill from the problems you chose to fix. See the comparison table above.
Will Pupgrade work for [specific breed]?
Yes. The 75-skill curriculum is breed-agnostic on mechanics, sit is sit, recall is recall, and the focus areas cover the behaviors every breed produces. Per-dog adaptivity (planned) will eventually tune recommendations based on how dogs of similar backgrounds actually respond, not based on breed stereotypes.
What's the no-shock, no-prong stance about?
Modern positive-reinforcement training is more effective than aversive methods (the research is settled), and aversive tools commonly produce fear, redirected aggression, or learned helplessness. Pupgrade rejects them by name. The Sound Toolkit gives you the beeps, tones, and whistles owners reach for in "beep-only" collar modes, built into the app, not strapped to the dog's neck.
What do I get in the free tier?
Three focus areas of your choice, 25 foundation and starter skills, the daily routine (manual, you pick what to work on each block), read-only access to the Examples Library, and the basic Sound Toolkit (clicker). It's a full enough experience to fix one or two specific problems without paying. Most apps lock everything behind a paywall, we don't.
What unlocks when I upgrade to Pupgraded?
All 12 focus areas (75+ skills total), the Routine ↔ Progress auto-loop (the actual differentiator, your training blocks auto-pick the next un-mastered skill), the full Sound Toolkit, failure-mode diagnostics with the 6-prompt troubleshooting flow, write access to the Examples Library, multi-dog profiles, and discounts in the vet-curated Shop. $11.99/mo or $89/year.
What's the difference between Pupgraded and Forever Home?
Pupgraded is a subscription ($11.99/mo or $89/yr). Forever Home is a one-time $199 , same features, but you pay once and own it. Includes future curriculum additions. Worth it if you'll own dogs for the next 3+ years.
A real example

"Stop jumping on guests": four phases, six weeks.

The most-requested behavior fix, broken into the actual steps that work. No course module, no marketing fluff. This is exactly what shows up in your routine.

Phase A · Week 1

Foundation

Marker. Release cue. Sit. Sit-stay 30 seconds. Quiet room only.

Phase B · Week 2

Phase C · Weeks 3-4

Cooperative helper

One friend, leashed greeting, then doorbell, then escalating arousal.

Phase D · Week 5+

Real-world guests

Choose-to-sit (the visitor's presence becomes the cue). Ten-variable proofing matrix.

Your dog. Your house. Your $89.
